OUR STORY

After making Pottery for over 40 years my personal vision remains virtually unchanged, I strive to make pottery people can enjoy and use everyday.  If I don't currently have what they need, in response, I work with them to design and make what they are requesting.  Sometimes these items then become incorporated into my catalogue of work.

Within my body of work I love making mugs.  Everyone uses mugs or drinking vessels everyday and I strive to make pottery that will enhance their meals, don't present a challenge to use and celebrate their purpose.

These modern electronic times have allowed for many conveniences such as communicating online with folks looking for my work or people finding my contact information by googling "Darrel" and the word pottery and then using

GPS directions to find my home Gallery/Studio.

For many years I taught Pottery Classes and Workshops for Pottery Clubs in the Lower mainland.  I enjoyed showing students how to work with clay, which was balanced with the satisfaction of seeing them "get it".  Many of them continued working with clay for personal interests or for professional pursuits.  It's also fun to have past students pop by the Studio and let me know what they're doing now.  In 2004 I moved to Vancouver Island and set up my current Gallery/Studio and since that time I've concentrated on developing my Gallery and expanding my line of pottery.

With many years of selling to Galleries and Shops, I'm now selling only from my Gallery and at local Arts and Craft Fairs.  I like to see folks gravitate towards certain items, sometimes trying out 6 similar mugs to find the one that looks and feels right for them.  I also enjoy visiting with the many people that come to see us at our home Gallery and local Fairs.

Every day I try to make art and function come together in items that people need and can use in their daily lives.
